From July 17 to July 22, heavy rainfall occurred in most parts of Henan Province. According to the local government, 302 people were killed, 50 people were missing, and more than 6,543,800 people were affected. The flood also damaged the infrastructure in many parts of the province, including maternal and child health care institutions at all levels, thus affecting local basic medical and health services and increasing the risks faced by women and children.

These medical equipment purchased by UNICEF include neonatal and adult ECG monitors, ventilators, automated external defibrillator and medical refrigerators. The first batch of medical equipment has been handed over to Henan Provincial Health and Wellness Committee, and the rest will arrive in Xinmi in the near future. These materials are planned to be sent to medical and health service institutions in nine disaster areas, including xinmi city, Dengfeng, Xingyang, Weihui, muye district, mengzhou city, Hebi, Fugou and Xihua.

"UNICEF is deeply saddened by the casualties caused by the recent floods and their devastating impact on the lives of many people. In order to support the people and government of Henan, we mobilized resources to help restore health care services for mothers and children. " Rui Xinyue, UNICEF representative in China, said: "While continuing to support the government in solving its urgent needs, UNICEF is also prepared to support the China government in building its disaster prevention capacity to reduce the risks faced by future natural disasters."

After the flood in Henan, UNICEF cooperated with the government of China to provide support for vulnerable children and their families. Before this batch of medical equipment assistance, UNICEF had provided 8,200 sets of personal hygiene products and 1500 sets of first aid kits to children in disaster areas.
