2 Years and 4 Months in Fluency: The Fluency Group

The 2 years and 4 months I've been at Fluentia is not very long, but it seems like a long, long time. During this time, I have done various jobs and experienced various projects, big and small. Although I left with some unhappiness, I still have a lot of good memories in Fluentia, so I decided to record them in writing.

The fluency team. Speaking of this program, it will always make people feel sorry, right? From December 2014 to take over this project, I as the project leader, with a team of 5 people, mainly responsible for the operation of the community, to mention the product requirements. Until May 2015, the company decided to cut this feature, before and after only six months. For this project, my team and I used almost all of our energy and love during that time to pour into this favorite project. So, I'm going to start by writing about my experience with this project.

At first, I didn't have much of a feeling for the "team", and I only knew that at some point, Jing and a group of friends were working on this project, and I wasn't involved in the preliminary research, product design, or development. It was not until about November (if I remember wrongly, please correct me) that the group was officially launched, and I started to be irresistible to this fascinating new world on Fluent Speak.

On the first day of the launch, I frantically created dozens of groups, probably in Korean, French, Japanese, Spanish, and various other languages, as well as "Let's drink chrysanthemum tea together" and "Shanghai's streaming friends, shall we? " etc. They have nothing to do with language, but it seems that I can create a "superior (dou) quality (bi) group", and then happily go to some larger groups to dig people, drop all kinds of small advertisements and then quickly flash, and then reap the benefits, and one day can be wildly clicked on hundreds of requests to join the group. The group's IM format is probably better suited to hooking up with users (girls), so you can always run into some acquaintances in the group, fluently saying that a certain coder (picking his nose ~~ you know)

Of course, just creating a group and putting it there is not enough to break the silence, which always needs a little bit of ripples, a stone or a breeze. It was by chance that when I came home from work and lay down on my bed, a girl named Smile suddenly asked me if there was anyone here to teach me Korean, and I immediately jumped up from my bed. I immediately jumped out of bed and replied: Yes. To tell you the truth, I had only been learning Korean on and off for 2 years, and I could speak Korean to the extent of "?". This kind of degree. I thought it would be okay to teach pronunciation, since it was fairly standard and had a bit of kimchi flavor. So I asked, "How many of you have no knowledge of Korean at all? That's how I managed to recruit 4 students that night. I remember very clearly that it was 9:40 pm, I didn't prepare any lesson, I just took a simple tutorial from Baidu and started the first lesson. From that day on, the group was officially renamed as "Korean Zero-Basic Class (9:00pm every night)". In those days, the happiest time of the day was "9pm every night", and the most exciting thing was to go to the fluency bar to set up the group's homework and wait for the next day's checkup. To this day, I still have my notes from that time in my cell phone memo.

Then there was the time when Mr. Wang invited us to eat kebabs. It was a snowy night, after 11 o'clock. It seemed to be the first snowfall in Shanghai that year. I was faced with yet another choice in my career at Fluentia, whether to transfer my personnel to Mengfan (which I'll explain later) or to return to Fluentia as a project leader for the group (which had already moved from Fluentia to Mengfan at the time). Although I don't remember what strong reasons Boss Wang used to prove that I was suitable for the group's operation, I probably summarized it as the experience of the Hujiang YY channel. To add emphasis, the language learning community.

In the Spring of 2015, the group's hosting team (tapped from the community's active and high-quality users) had already recruited six event hosts one after another, and the fluency group had entered a daily operation. Yes, everyone in the group was very energetic, and they didn't close for Chinese New Year. At that time, the group had about 1-2 events a day, and as many as 4. With the strengthening of the operation, and the fluent group's entrance moved to the home page after the fluent 2.0 update, the fluent group's activity has increased a lot more than when it was launched. The number of group users is increasing, and a wave of "Bugs" is coming. For example, message lag, voice and picture can't be sent, and there are also "weird events in the group"... Every day, group hosts reported new and old problems in the QQ group of the hosting group, and I was the only one who operated the group at that time. I was the only one who collected problems, gave feedbacks, and took care of the host group's daily life, and I was called Tomato. So no matter what time of the day or night, harassing the developers at Fluentis has become my daily routine in the Spring Festival. Even though it sounds a little bit miserable, I still had a very happy Spring Festival because of the users of the fluent group.

Starting in March, the group's Operations Team slowly added new operations members.

Sort by the order in which they joined Fluentia (pfft

Except for Big Butt Butt, the members of this Team have all left Fluentia for some reasons. Now, we exchange "daily life" and emoticons (the most important thing) on WeChat every day, and have dinner dates from time to time. The relationship between us has grown stronger over time because of this amazing "group".

Bao: Like me, they are all English teacher graduates, Shenyang girl. The first time I saw this, I was in the middle of a conversation with a guy who was in the middle of a conversation with me. Occasionally go to the bar to drink a little wine, smoke a little smoke, coupled with the melancholy hair, simply handsome to the explosion. Mr. Bao's ability is super strong, half of the hosting group later is Mr. Bao's down. He recruits new hosts, communicates with them about the details of their activities, takes care of their daily routine, works out their management and rewards and punishments, and holds regular meetings once every 2 weeks.... She has also run thousands of group activities, and is a great host. However, Ms. Bao has always dreamed of being a "teacher", so now, she is working as an online teacher in an organization, living a very different routine from us. It became very difficult to ask her out. Well, given her northeastern genes, we all agreed that she has a good chance of becoming a Netflix teacher. Are you guys interested in making her a star? She's short of an agent.

Dean: Before joining the fluent speakers is fluent speakers of the star user, singing hype chicken good listening, we want to listen to his singing can pay attention to his singing bar or fluent speakers of the good night radio program. The Butt Butt has a very recognizable catchphrase: What's this? Is this edible? Is it good? (laughs), so hacking him has become the most fun thing to do in the team. Well, it's also a way for us to show our love for him. When I first joined, Big Butt operated the first study group under the name of "Sky", and I was his assistant teacher "Onion Flower" at that time. Together with the members of the group, we gained a lot of memories and touches, which made us love our work even more. Big Butt has very meticulous thinking ability and strong data analysis ability, and he works very hard and carefully. I don't know what he does now, but I'm sure he's got a great future ahead of him. Also, Big Butt Butt especially likes doge and all kinds of woof, so if you're a fan of his, this would be a good choice.

Peppermint: Peppermint is a good friend of mine who I met on the HUJI YY channel. At that time, she was also the head of the channel's literary department, with a super beautiful baby voice, and a K-room bully (it's not black). She had the intention of joining Fluent Speaking at a very early stage, however, the emergence of the group program gave her another chance. Mint girl paper in the work of a particularly sense of flow, meticulous and organized. Careful, she also helped Mr. Bao to sort out the management standard of the host group in the early stage, and also made the process of the host group from recruitment, assessment to management clearer. When it comes to the MVP class program, she was responsible for the large group of more than 50 assistants in the early stage, which has great potential. Also, don't be fooled by her cute face, her magical nature sometimes I can't bear it~hhhhhh. also, she has a TITLE: Fluency Group Great Aunt, with an Auntie Red logo. as for why, I'll explain later hahaha.

Ye Jumei: Jiu baa is also a good friend of mine in the HUJIANG YY channel, more late as the management department minister. Duanzi hand a. I'm not sure if you're going to be able to get the job done, but I'm sure you're going to be able to get the job done right. Superb business management skills and resource integration. Also, we all love NineBaa's emoticons. NineBaa's other title in Team is: Mrs. Fluent Team, with a flirty pink logo, for the same reason as above hahaha. Now we are coworkers again. But her dream is to be able to enter the game industry and do what she really likes. Well, I'm sure she'll be able to realize her dream because she's always been working so hard. I'm sure she'll be able to realize her dream, because she's always worked so hard.

Bo has always said that the five of us are the most cohesive team in Fluentia. We probably share the same taste and love the task at hand, so we are always so united in our efforts to produce colorful activities, community retention and activity, and significant revenue for the MVP class...

This was the first time that I've seen the MVP class.

At that time, I didn't know how to be a Leader to fight for more and coordinate tricky things for everyone, and I was still very childish and naive, but you guys were very accommodating and understanding, thank you. I'm not sure how I'm going to be able to do that, but I'm going to be able to do it!

When 5 of us are together, we're always thinking out of the box. If you've ever played in a group of friends, you must know that the legend says that on the territory of the fluent group, there is an official and a hegemony called "fluent group greatly". He is in charge of the whole group community, responsible for promulgating the rules and regulations of the group community and all kinds of statements, recommending the daily popular group activities, helping to expand the capacity of high-quality groups, and occasionally appearing and disappearing in some lively group activities, etc. The smart streamers have probably already guessed that the group will have a lot of ideas. Smart streamers probably have guessed that the "fluent group greatly" is our 5 behind-the-scenes operation meow. At that time, for the sake of account unification, I casually registered the account of "Fluent Group Dada", with the persona of a middle-aged man, wearing the logo of "Yin-Yang Face" of Fluent Speaking, sometimes serious, sometimes amusing....

I was just talking at work, and I realized that some of my friends would think of "fluent group big" as "fluent group wife", "fluent group dog", and so on. "I'm not sure if you're a fan of this. So, in an evening of playing with the fluency logo with Meitu Xiu Xiu, we developed "fluency group great aunt" and "fluency group baby" (laughs). If you are interested, you are welcome to go to the fluent bar and search for the post "Let's play (bad) fluent logo".

Later, as the group's operations grew, and the MVP class was launched, these broken accounts began to play their own roles. From then on, the fluency group went from "one bully" to "three bullies".

FluentGroupDavid: As the "head of the family", he is still in charge of the main affairs of the group's community, focusing more on the group's day-to-day activities. The real ones are still the 5 of us.

Ms. Liu Li Group: As the "Stepford Wife", she is mainly responsible for class-related matters, such as class creation, posting enrollment, inviting students into the class, and docking with the class teacher, and so on. The real body Ye Kumi fungus.

Fluent group great aunt: and the first two relationships confusing magical existence. In short, the assistant teachers of the big supervisor. Responsible for assistant teacher recruitment, assistant teacher evaluation, assistant teacher management, and so on. The real body mint sauce.

The above is the daily life of the fluency group family. I'm sorry, the group of friends, hidden from us for so long, if you are offended, please do not human flesh us.

For more on this, please search for "Today's panel" in the fluent bar.

Everyone has a different view of the same thing, and everyone has a different way of reaching the same goal. There is no one right or wrong, because this kind of strategy is to be verified in the process, iterative adjustments, the results will be seen. Who can predict "surely" at the beginning?

At that time, Super's entire project team had all kinds of internal disagreements, and the iteration of the learning, fluent bar, and fluent group features were always in dispute, and I remember the biggest contradiction at that time was whether to do the iteration of the group or the iteration of the fluent bar first. In retrospect, it seems that everyone was caught in a misunderstanding of thinking, and the premise of the argument was that everyone defaulted to isolating the fluency group and the fluency bar. Yet with one as a square of content and the other as the last line of defense for activity and retention, shouldn't the most important thing we should be thinking about be how to put these two aces together into a single pair of hits?

From about March to the end of the group was cut, the group function itself has not been iterative and optimization, in the limited conditions, but our data are growing steadily. Can not publish group activities, we use fluent group greatly account every morning around 9:00 posting top activities; can not let users sign up for activities, we fought for the home page flow small banner and up to two large banner position to the traffic directly into the group; no activity start reminder, we will be human shouting, to remind users to participate in the activities. Although the product does not provide any support in terms of functionality, our group operated by 5 only utilized a variety of ways to think within the framework, overcoming all kinds of difficulties, the group's activities carried on, but also made considerable achievements.

At the end of the argument, the PM in charge of the project finally came up with a compromise, which is the "circle" you see now. However, the group, in this way gradually withdrew from the "stage of history" (don't laugh, seriously). You must ask, as the leader of this project, did you not fight for it? Of course, how not, but at that time, I only have a heart to win and want to make achievements, but do not know how to use the method. Childish quarrels, negative IQ fight, with the emotion of anger, touching one after another minus. I don't know why I cared so much at the time, but it was probably because the group had become more than just my job.

It's sad, but it's not like it's going to be reversed, and myself and my teammates all looked past it shortly afterward. The image above is Expo and my wild ideas for how to combine Learning, Fluency Bar, and Fluency Groups into one app, please don't complain about the realizability, it's just a memento of what happened.

In May, the company decided to cut down the group, and our team was officially transferred from Project Super to Project Tydus (another multilingual app: Fluent Academy) to run the class product, and I myself also split into the product design of the class, and worked with Jing on the class feature. Since the earliest time for the class to go live was July, we as a Team had to be the MVP of the class in the group on the one hand, and on the other hand, we also needed to keep working on the operation of the group. At that time, Super (also known as English Fluent Speaking) had gradually removed the group activity portal, and group activities were getting harder and harder to promote. However, our 30-odd moderators continued to work until the last week of June, sticking to the fixed time every week and completing every activity. The posters are not available on the web, so please forgive me if you don't find your own.

Memories of the days when we worked side by side, thank you for your dedication. Thank you for loving the Fluency Group, and your own group too.

Oh, by the way, thanks to Sherry and her cousin who have been helping out with the event posters on the side.

All of these are memories of running the group, and that's all I can remember.

I'm sure there are a lot of stories I don't know about Jing's work with groups. But in fact, the person who should be most thankful here is Jing: first, you created this world; second, we have these stories. There are many more stories I want to share with Jing, so I'll write about them later.

I miss the days when we believed in the community and discussed strategies and programs together; I miss discussing the feasibility of "accompanying students" with Forrest; I miss learning how to use data analysis to drive operations with Kevin; I miss the days when we struggled with our teammates; I miss the days when we argued in the face of each other; and I miss the days when we had to fight with each other to get to a better place. I miss the days when I had to fight with my teammates all the way to the top.

Thanks for the experience, thanks for the harvest.

Thanks for the experience, thanks for the harvest.
