The round dance, also known as waltz. There are different views on its origin: there is the German origin theory, the French origin theory and the Italian origin. It is a three-beat, whirling dance with a cheerful, lively mood. The word "waltz" appeared around 1780, but whirling dances appeared in folklore much earlier, but were once banned.

The Chinese are generally aware of the repetition of the three-beat cycle of "bing-chong-chong" that characterizes the waltz. In the Austro-German region and in Italy the origin of the folk dance is the source of the round dance song, the sixteenth century, the round dance song in the eighteenth century has become the dominant dance material. Throughout the nineteenth century it achieved overwhelming dominance. The twentieth century is still in the ascendant until today.

Du Mingxin's "Youth Round Dance" was the first round dance produced in 1976 after the "Gang of Four" was crushed. It expresses the joyful mood of the people celebrating the victory over the Gang of Four with a cheerful melody and a bright rhythm. The music is full of vigor and has the character of young people. The whole piece is a three-part A,B,A structure. After a strong prelude, the melody of the first section appears, followed by its derivative melody.

After a short transition into the middle section, the piece is divided into three subsections, the first of which is a lyrical melody, rich in singing, depicting the purity and simplicity of the hearts of young people, the small middle section of B and the second section of A in the rhythm of the same ***, the use of rests to make the melody more joyful and jumping. The third section of B reproduces the first section, but with more enthusiasm, and serves as the beginning and the end of the A section of the piece. The recapitulation of the A section is played on the trumpet. In addition to the joyous element, it is more evocative. It is more invocative, and gradually reaches the climax of the whole piece and then ends, symbolizing the youth's spiritedness and enthusiasm for the construction of the motherland.
