The opera focuses on Carmen, a beautiful-looking but headstrong gypsy girl, a cigarette factory worker. She makes Don Hauser, a military squad leader, fall in love with her and abandon his lover in the countryside, the gentle and kind-hearted Mika Ella.
Then Don Hauser is arrested and sent to prison for letting her go after a fight with the women workers, and after his release he joins the smugglers she works for. Later, however, Carmen falls in love with the bullfighter Escamilio, and while the people cheer Escamilio's victory in a bullfight, she dies at the dagger of Don Hauser.
Expanded: Performance Information The National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) reintroduced France's Bizet Opera Carmen in 2010, and it meets the audience once again during the Third Opera Festival. This time, the Grand Theater specially invited Chen Zuohuang, the artistic director of music of the NCPA, to direct the production, and the stars of the Western Opera Theater to join hands in the performance. The biggest attraction of this performance is that the NCPA has invited the best of the world's leading opera houses to play the main roles of "Carmen" for the Chinese audience. Victoria Wiggin, mezzo-soprano, and Brandon Jovanovich, tenor, the golden couple of the opera world, played "Carmen" and "Don José" respectively in the recently concluded Met season. They will bring world-class opera performances to the NCPA. Baidu Encyclopedia - Carmen
