The North Square of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda is located at the foot of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, which is one of the largest Tang culture theme squares in China. The square consists of a musical fountain in the center and the "Opera View Garden" and "Folklore View Garden" on the east and west sides. There are also a series of sculptures on the pedestrian street next to the square reflecting the scenes of people's lives in the Tang Dynasty.
The square is most attractive to tourists is located in the central axis of the "musical fountain". The performance of the fountain styles, especially the night performance, in the background lighting reflection, more obvious colorful. Every night performance, the square is crowded with people, if you are ready to watch the show, it is recommended to arrive early, so as not to squeeze into the crowd and affect the viewing. Each fountain lasts about 25 minutes.
On the east side of the square is the "Opera Grand View Garden", which highlights the local characteristics of Shaanxi. In the garden, there are sculpture groups such as painted sculptures of operas and cast bronze reliefs of local operas. Walking among them, "Wudianpo", "Chopping Li Guang" and other traditional Qinqiang plays composed of sculpture groups, showing the unique charm of the "big Qinqiang".
On the west side of the square is the "Folklore Grand View Garden", which is themed on Shaanxi folk culture. Inside the garden, there are vivid sculptures, such as shadow puppets, the Eight Strangenesses of Shaanxi, stilt-walking, rural marriages, and White Deer Plains series, etc., which show the folk customs of different parts of Shaanxi.
There are some catering restaurants in the square as well as in the surrounding area, but they are slightly more expensive than the average downtown location, and there is a KFC restaurant on the east side of the square. From the square, it's about a 10-minute walk west along Xiaozhai East Road to the Shaanxi History Museum.
