I understand the emotional code, but also insight into the amazing power behind emotions. At the same time, I became more and more curious about the mystery of EQ, and read many books about EQ. Among them, Daniel Gorman's EQ research and theory, known as the "father of EQ", brought me profound influence and surprise. Now I share some of my learning insights in a serial way, hoping to bring substantial help to more people!
Introduction of this issue-mainly an overview of EQ and an explanation of the importance of EQ.
What is EQ?
Simply put, EQ is the ability to manage emotions. ? The human body is like a carriage, driven by horses and driven by emotions. The tool to control horses is called reins, and the tool to manage emotions is called emotional intelligence. If the horse pulling the cart is scared out of control, the carriage will overturn and the car will be destroyed. If people's emotions are out of control, people will get sick, go crazy, commit suicide and kill people. This shows how important it is to improve the ability of emotional management.
Gorman summarized EQ as the following five abilities: (1) the ability to know one's emotions;
(2) the ability to properly manage emotions;
(3) the ability of self-motivation;
(4) the ability to understand other people's emotions
(5) the ability to manage interpersonal relationships.
Emotional intelligence is very important for personal success in life, smooth workplace and happy family.
Medical data show that 75% of human diseases are caused by emotions. Keeping a cheerful mood can prolong life for 6-8 years.
70% people in the workplace are unhappy, 90% people are depressed, 90% people hate office culture, 90% people are in sub-health state, and the number of depressed patients increases by 18% every year. Nowadays, people may lack everything except happiness, material richness and spiritual desertification; Buildings are getting stronger and stronger, but people are getting weaker and weaker!
Many unpleasant things, such as illness, alcoholism, drug abuse, crime, friction, conflict, family discord and unsatisfactory workplace, are all related to emotional management. It can be said that almost all the problems a person encounters are related to improper emotional management.
EQ is much more important than IQ.
Among all kinds of students of all ages, there are many outstanding talents with smart minds, excellent academic performance and special skills, but they may not be happy in life and have achieved nothing in their careers. On the contrary, many people with "average IQ" have a happy life and a successful career. Therefore, a person's happiness and success, to a large extent, is related to whether he can master his own and others' emotions and then use social skills.
EQ is more important than IQ-Education
For a long time, students with high academic performance, high ranking in school exams and winning prizes in competitions are considered to have high IQ and high expectations for their future. The formal education system provides them with 10 hours of in-class and out-of-class study time. It is expected that 12 years of basic education will enable them to grow into successors with high IQ. Unfortunately, EQ, which is considered by Dr. Daniel Gorman to be more important than IQ, has not been given due attention in China's education system.
Although the word EQ is now known by more and more people, many people do not have a correct and profound scientific understanding of EQ. At present, the popularity of EQ education in China is far less than that in Europe and America. With the continuous development of EQ research, American educators have long paid attention to EQ education. In many schools in the United States, from kindergarten to high school, "social and emotional learning" has become an important course. Through these courses and related activities, people's ability to communicate with others can be improved. It can also promote students' character cultivation and academic performance. In the schools participating in social and emotional learning programs, 50% students' grades have been improved. In addition, social and emotional learning programs have also made the campus environment safer. On average, students' bad behaviors have decreased by 28%, students who have terminated their studies have decreased by 44%, and other disciplinary behaviors have decreased by 27%. At the same time, the attendance rate of students has also improved, and 63% of students have obviously shown more positive behavior.
EQ is more important than IQ-health.
Emotional disorder and bad interpersonal relationship are the causes of the disease. Now many studies have confirmed that people who can control their emotions more peacefully and consciously often have unique and significant health advantages.
Emotional intelligence is more important than IQ-love and marriage.
Love and work are dual abilities that mark a person's overall maturity, and emotional strength is the key to the survival of marriage. The key factor to prevent couples from turning against each other is emotional intelligence. Women are good at understanding verbal and nonverbal emotional signals and expressing and communicating feelings, while most men don't like to express feelings of vulnerability, guilt, fear and injury. Women are more empathetic and emotional than men. When dealing with each other's emotional problems, men and women must overcome their inner gender differences. If they can't do this, cracks will easily appear and eventually the relationship will break down.
EQ is more important than IQ-interpersonal relationship
The ability to adjust others' emotions is the core of the art of dealing with interpersonal relationships, which requires a certain degree of emotional self-control. Self-control is the beginning to reduce one's anger and troubles and control one's impulses and excitement. Without personnel skills, people with high IQ will hit a wall everywhere. A key to social competitiveness is people's ability to express their feelings. The emotional signals we send out in social interaction will have an impact on the people around us. People who can help others to relieve their emotions are particularly popular. They are the objects that people with emotional needs turn to for help. The synchronization of emotions determines whether you feel comfortable or uncomfortable with interpersonal communication. A high level of interpersonal communication means that people like each other.
Emotional quotient is more important than IQ-competitive competition
In the top competitive environment, each athlete's practice time is tens of thousands of hours, and success depends on the psychological quality of the athletes on the spot.
Emotional quotient is more important than IQ-enterprise leadership
The level of IQ can accurately predict whether employees meet the requirements of cognitive ability in a specific position. But for a group of reserve talents whose intelligence meets the professional requirements, IQ can't predict who will become the best leader. Compared with IQ or technical ability, EQ is often a "discriminating" competitiveness, which can well predict who has the most leadership ability among a group of very smart people. Looking at the single determinant of the competitiveness of star leaders listed by various institutions around the world, you will find that the higher the position, the lower the importance of IQ and technical ability indicators. The research director of a global executive research company pointed out that "the CEO was hired because of his intelligence and business ability, and he was fired because of his lack of emotional intelligence"
People with high IQ and EQ are proud of the spring breeze.
People with low IQ and high EQ should get help from noble people.
People with high IQ and low EQ have no talent.
People with low IQ and EQ can do nothing.
