The Second People's Hospital of Shanxi Province was established on July 29th, 1977. It is a three-level first-class occupational hospital that undertakes the treatment of occupational poisoning and all kinds of life, drug and pesticide poisoning in Shanxi Province, and undertakes the tasks of occupational disease diagnosis, treatment, occupational health examination and industrial workers' monitoring in the whole province. The Second People's Hospital of Shanxi Province was formerly the Institute of Occupational Disease Prevention and Control of Shanxi Province. 1977 was approved to be established on July 29th, and an affiliated hospital was established. 1984 approved by the former provincial planning commission, the affiliated hospital was transformed into an occupational disease hospital in Shanxi province. 1995, the provincial government 19 executive meeting approved the formal increase of the hospital name "Shanxi Second People's Hospital".
On April 18, 2005, the National Health and Family Planning Commission and the National Development and Reform Commission designated the hospital as the national second-class chemical poisoning treatment base to undertake the medical treatment task of chemical poisoning incidents in Shanxi Province. In June 2008, the National Health and Family Planning Commission approved the hospital as the first designated hospital for kidney transplantation in the province.
