Structurally, the flying torch is mainly composed of three parts: external streamer, internal streamer and hydrogen burner. Below the torch is the auspicious cloud pattern full of China elements, which gradually changes from auspicious cloud to snowflake pattern from bottom to top, and finally the Olympic flame burns at the top of the torch. The emblem of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics is engraved in the middle of the torch. The torch shell is made of carbon fiber and composite materials. The mass of carbon fiber is only 1/4 of that of steel, and its strength can reach seven to nine times that of steel. For the first time in the world, carbon fiber and composite materials are used to make the torch, which has the characteristics of high temperature resistance, wear resistance, waterproof and antifouling. Even in the environment below zero degrees Celsius, the touch will not be cold. The torch uses hydrogen as fuel, which not only has the characteristics of environmental protection, but also ensures the torch to burn continuously under extremely cold conditions.
The torch of Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics follows China's traditional philosophy "Taoism is natural, and man and nature are integrated". Because it spirals upward, it feels more like a plant, growing, sprouting and growing upward. Using red and silver as the main colors of the torch symbolizes that the torch will bring "light and warmth" to the world of ice and snow, symbolizing that ice and fire meet, flying with passion, illuminating the ice and snow and warming the world. The choice of color and the auspicious cloud pattern on the handle also represent the continuation of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The reason why we use the same color scheme and similar artistic elements as the torch of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games is to convey auspicious greetings to the world and show Beijing's rich Olympic culture as during the Summer Olympic Games. The red line represents the Great Wall, the skiing track of the Winter Olympics and the constant pursuit of light, peace and Excellence by human beings. Torchbearers need to connect the "ribbons" of the two torches during the torch relay, which symbolizes the vision of the Winter Olympics in which different civilizations exchange and learn from each other and let the world know each other better. Torch fuel is consistent with BOCOG's efforts to host the "Green and High-tech Winter Olympics".
