What is the concept of reproductive health?

1994 the definition of reproductive health adopted by the international conference on population and development is that reproductive health refers to all matters related to the reproductive system and its functions and processes, including physical, psychological and social health, not just the absence of disease or weakness. Therefore, both men and women have the right to know and actually obtain the safe, effective, affordable and acceptable family planning methods they choose, the right to obtain the methods they choose to adjust the fertility rate without violating the law, and the right to obtain appropriate medical and health care services, so that women can safely conceive and give birth.

The reproductive system includes reproductive organs and glands that produce sex hormones, such as pituitary gland. Reproductive system diseases mainly refer to diseases related to reproductive organs and glands. Because of the characteristics of female reproductive organs, female reproductive system diseases are more common. According to the assessment of the World Health Organization, 20% of women and 14% of men in the world suffer from reproductive system diseases. At the same time, because sexual behavior usually needs to be completed by both sexes, both men and women need to pay attention to personal hygiene, reduce reproductive system diseases and be responsible for themselves and others.

The basic contents of reproductive health services in China include: informed choice, publicity and education, technical services, scientific management and comprehensive services. Its goal is to deepen publicity and education, strengthen technical services, organize mass participation, and form a family planning work pattern integrating publicity, management and service, focusing on people's all-round development and focusing on contraception. Generally speaking, China's reproductive health services cover six elements generally recognized by the international community. All county-level areas and 95% township-level areas in China have reproductive health service centers. Although adolescents and unmarried young people are both groups with high demand for reproductive health services, and they are also important targets of reproductive health policies in China, at present, reproductive health services for adolescents and unmarried young people are completely lacking.
