India's military exports continue to grow

India is under the auspices of the "Make in India" program, to create a "global defense manufacturing center".

There has been a lot of news around India's military exports to foreign countries. 2020, India and Armenia signed a $40 million deal to export the Schwarte artillery positioning radar.

In 2021, after India completed the delivery of the Schwati artillery locator radar, Armenia purchased another batch of 155mm towed artillery systems worth $155 million from India.

In January 2022, India and the Philippines signed an agreement for the export of Brahmos artillery systems worth $375 million. "BrahMos hypersonic cruise missile export contract with the Philippines in January 2022 worth $375 million.

This project has been hailed by the Indian media as a "milestone" in India's arms exports. In addition, India is currently negotiating with Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates on the export of "BrahMos" hypersonic cruise missiles, the Philippines, Indonesia and some countries in the African region have shown great interest in India's locally-developed "Akash" surface-to-air missile systems. The Philippines, Indonesia and some countries in Africa have shown great interest in India's indigenously developed Akash surface-to-air missile system. At the recently concluded India-Africa Chiefs of Army Staff Conference 2023, India's Defense Minister Singh said that India has now become the world's leading arms exporter.

India has made a breakthrough in the field of exports of military products in recent years, thanks to the government's policies and support.

In 2018, the Indian government launched the "Defense Excellence and Innovation" program, aimed at encouraging India's indigenous startups and other entities to engage in weapons research and development innovation research. Since then, driven by the Indian government's "Make in India" program, India has further expanded the scale of arms and equipment exports by streamlining the licensing system for the defense industry, relaxing export controls and other measures.

India's prime minister said, India's defense exports increased sevenfold in five years, and now has exported defense products and equipment to 75 countries. He cited India's goal of increasing its arms and equipment exports to $5 billion.

Analysts believe that India's highly publicized local military industry, has been difficult to solve the "hard". Especially in some key technology areas of high dependence on foreign countries, some equipment systems are authorized production of foreign military enterprises or local assembly, some large-scale equipment, key core components still need to be imported. India's Kalvari-class conventional submarines, for example, India claims that the submarine to achieve 95% localization, but in fact, has not yet achieved localization of 5% is precisely the core technology of the submarine. Export prospects for better "Brahmos" hypersonic cruise missiles, India and Russia *** with the development of products.

This shows that India seeks to expand the export of military products, to realize the military defense equipment manufacturing field "Made in India" goal, still a long way to go.
