At present, we routinely carry out analgesic and sedation techniques for critically ill children, central venous catheterization techniques, hypothermia treatment for cranial hypertension, and gradually expand the technical fields of electroencephalography, ultrasound, cardiac excretion monitoring, energy metabolism testing, and ECMO for children.

The representative clinical techniques that have been carried out so far are: blood purification, mechanical ventilation, bedside bronchoscopy, and cryotherapy for cranial hypertension. The pediatric surgery department of our hospital takes the treatment of congenital complex malformation as the direction of development, carries out multidisciplinary joint treatment, and is the pediatric surgery center of critical and difficult diseases with complete professional settings and advanced technology in China at present. it was identified as the key specialty of Hunan provincial department in 2005. Pediatric Surgery Department has 248 medical and nursing staff***, including 83 physicians and 165 nurses. There are 6 doctoral graduates, 60 master's degree graduates and 17 undergraduates, of whom 10 are senior and 16 are associate senior. At present, it has general surgery (including minimally invasive surgery, emergency surgery, burns and plastic surgery and other specialized groups), surgical oncology, urology, neonatal surgery, orthopedics, cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, anesthesia operating room and so on. *** There are 348 beds, equipped with 20 operating rooms, ICU, PICU, CCU and other related auxiliary departments, with domestic and international advanced medical equipment.

The pediatric surgery department of our hospital has carried out positive exploration of multidisciplinary cooperation on complex congenital malformations, and has been awarded professional projects by the government and hospitals for complex joint infants, pediatric abdominal malignant tumors, minimally invasive techniques such as pediatric laparoscopy, ureteroscopy, percutaneous nephroscopy, holmium laser, etc., surgical treatment for congenital tibial pseudoarticular joints, complex congenital heart disease, and minimally invasive surgery for funnel chest, etc., and some of them have been awarded the National Twelfth Five-Year Plan. In 2012, we took the lead in establishing the Congenital Malformation Intervention Committee of Hunan Maternal and Child Health and Eugenics Association, continuing to give full play to the advantages of complete disciplines and strong clinical research and technical strength in pediatrics, and moving the timing of medical intervention from the neonatal period forward to the early stages of pregnancy. Our pediatric internal medicine department has cardiovascular medicine, gastroenterology, neurology, hematology, respiratory, infectious diseases, nephrology, liver disease center *** 8 sub-specialty departments, *** 10 wards, *** counting the number of beds more than 600, pediatric internal medicine outpatient clinic patients, a wide range of sources of diseases, difficult and miscellaneous diseases are more concentrated, many patients come to us, the number of outpatient visits each year continues to rise, in 2013, the number of outpatient visits to the Department of Pediatric Internal Medicine In 2013, the number of pediatric internal medicine outpatient visits was more than 400,000, and more than 20,000 pediatric internal medicine inpatient visits were made in 2013, and the diagnosis and treatment techniques were highly praised by parents and children.

Currently, there are more than 10 famous experts in the Department of Pediatric Internal Medicine***, and more than 40 chief physicians and deputy chief physicians***. The Department of Pediatric Internal Medicine has actively carried out peritoneal dialysis, hemoperfusion, plasma exchange, renal puncture biopsy, hepatic puncture biopsy, immunoabsorbtion, continuous bedside hemodiafiltration, bronchoscopy, gastroscopy, enteroscopy, and other technologies, and has made great efforts in the treatment of pediatric diseases such as newborn diseases, digestive system diseases, respiratory system diseases, and other diseases. We have accumulated rich experience in pediatric internal diseases such as neonatal diseases, digestive diseases, respiratory diseases, circulatory diseases, infectious and parasitic diseases, neurological diseases, urinary diseases, hematological oncological diseases, and endocrine, genetic metabolism, connective tissue, immunity, metamorphosis, etc. Meanwhile, in recent years, in order to meet the needs of patients, various sub-specialties of pediatric internal medicine have actively carried out the health education of the disease and greatly enhanced parents' awareness and understanding of the disease, and the importance of the disease in the pediatrics and the pediatrics. This has greatly enhanced parents' understanding of the disease and their confidence in overcoming the disease, helped communication and exchange between patients, parents, doctors and patients, and solved practical difficulties for parents. The Department of Pediatric Internal Medicine has insisted on weekend and night specialist outpatient clinics for many years, with no holidays throughout the year, which to a large extent solves the problems of difficulty in registering and seeing specialists, and adopts various ways of booking appointments, especially follow-up appointments, which shorten the waiting time for consultation and examination, and is highly praised by parents from abroad. The Neonatology Department of Hunan Children's Hospital was established in 1987 and was named a key specialty of Hunan Provincial Health Department in 2001. It has developed into a large neonatal center integrating pre-hospital emergency transfer, neonatal diagnosis and treatment and rescue of preterm babies, and post-discharge follow-up, with more than 150 neonatology staff members, including 7 chief physicians, 5 deputy chief physicians, 1 chief nurse, and 4 deputy chief nurses, which has formed a good talent echelon. With more than 20 million yuan of advanced rescue and treatment equipment: including more than 40 sets of neonatal special ventilators, 4 sets of blood gas analyzers, more than 120 sets of neonatal monitoring equipment, and is equipped with bedside ultrasound, bedside X-machine and so on. At present, the Neonatal Center*** has 5 wards (ICU for preterm infants, ICU for term infants, neonatal jaundice ward, general preterm infants ward, and fetal and neonatal surgery), which is a regional neonatal medical center with complete equipments and sufficient technical strength, with 240 beds set up and 300~320 hospitalized children.

In recent years, nearly 2,000 cases of critically ill newborns are transferred every year, more than 8,000 cases of patients are discharged from the hospital, and more than 4,500 cases of critically ill newborns are resuscitated, among which nearly 2,000 cases are mechanically ventilated, and the success rate of critical newborns' resuscitation is more than 90%. The cure rate of preterm infants less than 28 weeks is 75.87%, and the cure rate of 28-32 weeks reaches 94.25%. A standardized neonatal follow-up clinic has been established to provide early intervention and outpatient follow-up for most of the critically ill infants discharged from the hospital. In 2006, a case of 500 grams preterm infant with the lowest weight in the country was successfully treated, and in 2009 and early 2012, one pair of thoracic-abdominal symmetric conjoined infants were successfully separated, and their intellectual and physical development has been normal since the follow-up. In recent years, we have carried out new technologies and projects such as neonatal subcooling therapy, neonatal cerebral function monitoring, nitric oxide treatment of neonatal pulmonary hypertension, non-invasive positive pressure ventilation, high-frequency oscillatory ventilation, central venous cannulation, umbilical cord venous cannulation, and parental participatory nursing.
