The Brazilian Navy is currently the only navy in South America to deploy aircraft carriers, making it the strongest naval force in the region, and it has a Marine Corps. The Brazilian Navy's fleet consists of aircraft carriers, large frigates imported from the United Kingdom and the United States, self-built light combatants, conventionally powered attack submarines, and inland waterway (coastal) patrol boats, auxiliary ships, and so on, and there are currently about 90 ships in active service. The Brazilian Navy has a relatively large fleet of ocean-going and coastal patrol vessels, and Brazil currently has three medical ships, which are small in tonnage but are one of the few navies in the world equipped with this equipment. Recently, due to the discovery of oil resources in Brazilian waters, the Brazilian Navy plans to build its own nuclear-powered submarines and has adopted a series of modernization of the Navy, in order to strengthen the Navy's power to defend marine resources. The former HMS Vengeance, which belonged to the same Giant class as the Argentine Navy's HMS Reverence, was purchased by Brazil in December 1956, and was refitted in the 1950s with an angled flight deck, steam catapults, descent assist goggles, gunnery radar, etc. The superstructure was also refitted with a new radar system. In December 1960, she was officially commissioned into the Brazilian Navy. Since then, it has been modified several times, the most recent modernization was carried out from July 1991 to October 1993, with the installation of a new aircraft approach control radar, electronic equipment, combat data systems, communications systems, generators and boilers were also updated and replaced.
Acquired in 1956 and modified in 1957-1960 with the addition of angled flight decks, steam aircraft catapults, reflective landing aids, gun-sighting radar systems, newer radar and electronic equipment. The superstructure was also changed. The angle of inclination of the deck was 8°5. 24 airplanes could be carried. Currently used as an anti-submarine carrier, carrying S2A Searcher twin-engine anti-submarine aircraft, Sea King helicopters and other types of aircraft. Hangar: 135.6 x 15.9 meters. Aircraft elevator: 13.7 X 10.4 meters.
The boiler is of the "Admiralty" type, three-simple, steam pressure 28kg/cm2, temperature 371°C. The operating conditions of the aircraft's catapult and arresting gear are: 14 tons/60 knots
