Dragon lanterns and ridges

During the Spring Festival every year, people always play dragon lanterns door to door in Luogeng Village, Shengqiao Town, Lujiang. Everywhere, gongs and drums are noisy and lively, bringing a warm festive atmosphere to local villagers. According to legend, during the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty, it didn't rain for a long time, and the people were miserable. Knowing the disaster among the people, the Jade Emperor in the sky immediately ordered a white dragon to fetch water and rain from the Yangtze River to alleviate the human drought. Bailong received instructions and Yun Teng came over the Yangtze River. When he saw that the human drought was severe and the crops failed to harvest, he couldn't help but feel pity and took more water to rain. There is a saying that a drop of water from the sky flows into the river, causing flash floods and drowning many people at once. When the Jade Emperor knew about it, he sent someone to behead the White Dragon. After the White Dragon was beheaded, this dream was dedicated to Li Shimin, the emperor of the Tang Dynasty, and his grievances were told. Li Shimin, Emperor Taizong, woke up from a dream, so he ordered people to tie Jackie Chan's body with bamboo sticks according to the shape of the white dragon in the dream, one section at a time, nine sections at the head and tail * * *, and then drew many scales on the paper with paper paste to make people burn incense and worship as a symbol of sacrifice. Later, people lit candles in the dragon. At night, from a distance, it looked like a real dragon. People use ropes to connect the dragon bodies one by one, carry them on their shoulders, walk from village to village and play around. Since then, the custom of playing dragon lanterns has been handed down among the people. During the Republic of China, there was a sudden flood in a certain year, and the dragon lantern drifted with the water of White Lake to a lake ridge called Dazhudun Village. The local people didn't know what it was, so they picked it up and carried it back to the village. Soon, someone came here along the shore of the white lake and told the villagers the legend of the dragon lantern. The villagers saw that the dragon lantern was beautiful, so they chose to play it during the Spring Festival. 1947 during the liberation war, a Kuomintang army stationed in Matouzui, Hedong (now Muji Zhaohe, Juchao District) often harassed people in villages around Hexi. It is said that one day, villagers came out of the village with dragon lanterns to pray for rain, just as the Kuomintang army came again. A company commander surnamed Ma thought it was ridiculous: Can this bamboo paper still rain? He told his men to gouge out the eyes of the dragon lantern. I don't know if the dragon lantern really appeared or if it was a coincidence. It rained naively, but Ma Lianchang fell to the ground, screaming a headache before leaving the village, and was scared to death. Soon, he invited Dragon Lantern to his company. At this time, after knowing this situation, the guerrillas who were active in the area of White Lake pretended to be ordinary people to see the lights. In this way, the guerrillas wiped out the Kuomintang army in one fell swoop that night. Dragon lanterns also contributed to the revolution. After liberation, the country unified and standardized the place names, and the villagers renamed the original "Dazhudun" village as Longgeng, meaning that Longyou swam to the lake ridge and settled here. This must be Tommy Tam. Later, a "earth" was added to the right of the word "dragon", which became a "ridge".

During the Cultural Revolution, the Dragon Lantern was burned as "capitalism". In the late 1980s, in order to enrich the cultural life in rural areas, the local government encouraged villagers to play lanterns again during the Spring Festival. The county cultural bureau also subsidizes a little money as expenses every year, and invites the dragon lantern to perform in the county on the fifteenth day of the first month. Nowadays, playing with dragon lanterns has been regarded as a local culture, adding a festive atmosphere to the local countryside.
