Operation 1: how to read
Commonly used mercury thermometer, first of all, how to read. Hand holding the end of the mercury thermometer, so that the eye and the thermometer to maintain the same level, and then slowly rotate the thermometer, from the front to see a very thick column of mercury (the red line in the middle) can be read out the corresponding temperature value.
When taking a reading, be sure not to touch the mercury end of the thermometer with your hand, as this will affect the mercury column and cause inaccurate measurements. Always hold the end before each reading and shake it first to make sure it is not a previous reading.
Operation 2: Usage
Measurement of oral temperature:
(1) Shake the thermometer degree to below 35℃ before use.
(2) Place the thermometer under your tongue (just hold it, don't bite or talk hard).
(3) Measure for at least 3-5 minutes, 7 minutes is best.
(4) Remove the thermometer, take a temperature reading, wipe it clean with tissue paper, and then sterilize it with alcohol pads (in a rotating motion from the end to the mercury end).
Measuring axillary temperature:
(1) Shake the thermometer degree to below 35℃ before use.
(2) Do not take a bath before measurement, first sassafras armpit sweat, the mercury end of the thermometer clamped in the middle of the armpit, pay attention not to the table head to the outside, if it is a child, pay attention to hold its arm to prevent movement.
(3) Measure for 5-10 minutes.
(4) Remove the thermometer, read the temperature data, and then wipe the thermometer with toilet paper.
Measurement of anal temperature:
(1) Infants in the supine leg-up or lying position, children and adults in the side-lying position.
(2) The thermometer should be shaken to below 35℃ before use. Lubricate the mercury bulb end of the anal meter with lubricant (petroleum jelly or paraffin oil).
(3) Open the anus with your hand, rotate the anal thermometer and insert it slowly and gently, with the hand holding the anal thermometer resting on the buttocks to prevent it from slipping or being inserted too y.
(4)Insertion depth: Infants 1.25 centimeters; children 2.5 centimeters; adults 3.5 centimeters
(5)Measurement takes 2-5 minutes.
(6)Take out the anal meter, read the temperature number and then wipe it clean with toilet paper and then sterilize it with alcohol cotton pads (in a rotating manner from the end to the mercury end).
Extended information:
The first thermometer was invented by Galileo in the 16th century. But it wasn't until 300 years later that a thermometer was designed that was easy to use and reliable. Mercury is stored in a ball of mercury at the end. When the mercury is heated, it expands and rises up the very narrow glass tube.
So a small change in body temperature causes the mercury in the glass tube to rise dramatically. After taking your temperature, you have to shake the thermometer vigorously to get the mercury back inside the mercury bulb.
Considering the mercury hazards of mercury thermometers, many countries have adopted bans on them. As early as 1992, Sweden banned the sale of all medical devices containing mercury. Britain, France, Denmark and the Netherlands? have also banned their use and sale. In the United States, 13 states and cities, including San Francisco, Boston and Michigan, have banned the sale of mercury thermometers since 2000.
Data from the China Medical Devices Industry Association (CMDIA) shows that the national production of mercury thermometers consumed 109.25 tons of mercury in 2008, equivalent to the amount of mercury used in 21.85 billion standard mercury-containing energy-saving lamps. According to statistics, about 120 million mercury-containing thermometers are produced in China each year, and more than 10 tons of mercury are disposed of as waste in China each year due to the breakage of mercury thermometers.
