Japan to discharge Fukushima nuclear contaminated water
Last week, the Japanese government drew up a plan to discharge nuclear wastewater from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant into the Pacific Ocean, and the relevant decision will be officially made on April 13 at a cabinet meeting.
The announcement drew immediate attention from Japanese fishermen as well as South Korea and other countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
On April 12, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said that in order to safeguard the interests of the international public **** and the health and safety of the Chinese people, the Chinese side has expressed its serious concern to the Japanese side through diplomatic channels, and demanded that the Japanese side effectively take a responsible attitude and cautiously deal with the issue of the disposal of nuclear wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear power plant.
In fact, as early as last year, Japan had announced that it wanted to discharge nuclear wastewater into the Pacific Ocean, but it was later opposed by people at home and abroad.
Today, the issue of nuclear wastewater discharge has once again put Japan in the limelight.
