Hardware Facilities of Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport

Terminals

Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport currently has two terminals with a total area of 500,000 square meters, which can handle an annual passenger throughput of 50 million.

Terminal 1

Terminal 1 provides check-in, waiting and boarding services for all Sichuan Airlines flights as well as international, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan flights of other airlines.

Terminal 1 has three parallel finger corridors (A, B and C), which are used to separate the flow of inbound and outbound passengers, domestic and international passengers, as well as to set up the departure system, building automation system, etc. In 2004, the 39,000-square-meter international hall of the terminal was opened.

Terminal 2

Terminal 2 provides check-in, waiting and boarding services for domestic flights of airlines other than Sichuan Airlines.

Terminal 2 is located near the original regional terminal. With a floor area of 350,000 square meters, Terminal 2 has a steel truss structure for the waiting finger corridor, and its bamboo leaf appearance presents the local characteristics of Sichuan. Terminal 2 adds 4 more finger corridors (D, E, F, G) to the 3 in Terminal 1. The interior of the terminal is equipped with 6 check-in islands, 120 manual check-in counters, 35 security check lanes, more than 170 elevators, escalators and automatic walkways, and an automatic baggage sorting system. Air China has also built China's first domestic exclusive service area for First Class and Business Class passengers in Terminal 2, providing services such as catering, sleeping and showering. Construction of Terminal 2 began on July 28, 2009, and on May 24, 2012, it passed the completion inspection. On July 28 of the same year, China Eastern's flight to Lhasa Gongga Airport became the first flight to depart from Terminal 2.

Cargo facilities

Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport has three air cargo terminals with a total area of 107,000 square meters, capable of handling up to 1.5 million tons of cargo and mail shipments annually, making it the largest integrated cargo terminal in central and western China, and capable of providing round-the-clock customs clearance. United Parcel Service (UPS), FedEx, DHL, and SF Express all have regular cargo routes in Chengdu. Air transportation from Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport has become the most important logistics channel for Chengdu's electronics manufacturing industry.

Runways and Taxiways

Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport now has 2 parallel runways. Each runway has a matching taxiway system. The first runway (02L/20R): 3,600 meters long and 45 meters wide, with a reinforced concrete surface. Each side of the runway has a shoulder 7.5 meters wide, and the runway end safety areas (RESA) are 200 meters long. The first runway*** has four fast exit taxiways and three vertical exit taxiways connected to three parallel taxiways A, B and C, of which taxiways B and C are apron edge taxiways. The taxiway is 23 meters wide with 10.5 meters wide shoulders at both ends. There is also a network of taxiways around the apron. Its history dates back to 1938. The Airbus A380, the world's largest passenger airplane, took off and landed on this runway in 2008; it is equipped with a Category II instrument landing system. Runway 2 (02R/20L): 3,600 meters long and 60 meters wide, with a reinforced concrete surface. The second runway*** has five fast exit taxiways. On December 18, 2009, it was put into service. The second runway is connected to the airport's former apron and the first runway through an aircraft taxiway bridge that crosses Provincial Highway 103. It is equipped with a category III instrument landing system. Third runway (under demonstration): The construction of the third runway is currently under planning. This parallel runway is located 1525 meters east of the second runway. However, there are many factories near the airport, the land acquisition and relocation work for acquiring large construction sites is complicated, and the airspace allocation around Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport is tight, so the proposal of building Chengdu Tianfu International Airport seems to be gradually gaining the upper hand. Apron

The total area of the concrete parking area is 703,000 square meters. There are 57 parking spaces in the remote parking area***, 20 in the domestic terminal***, 8 in the international terminal***, and 2 in the feeder terminal***. Each parking area has a separate taxiway.

Navigation system

The airport is equipped with primary and secondary radar. A Doppler VHF Total Directional Ranging System (DVOR) and Distance Measuring Instrument (DME) are installed on the west side of the airport. The airport's Runway 02L/20R is equipped with a Class II Instrument Landing System (ILS), making it one of the fourth of four airports in China to have a Class II Blind Landing System (the first three being Beijing Capital International Airport, Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport), thus ensuring the safe takeoff and landing of aircraft in low-cloud and low visibility conditions. Under this system, aircraft takeoff criteria can be reduced from 550 meters of runway line-of-sight to 200 meters, and landing criteria can be reduced from 800 meters of runway line-of-sight to 350 meters. runway 02R/20L is fitted with a higher level of Class III Instrument Landing System (ILS).

Flight Area Lighting

The airport has high intensity approach lights and elevation runway and taxiway edge lights.

Maintenance hangar

As the transportation base of Air China International, Chengdu Maintenance Base is the largest comprehensive aircraft maintenance enterprise in Southwest China, with four aircraft overhaul bays, which can complete airframe overhaul, route maintenance, APU repair, accessory repair, thrust reversal repair, and special operations, and provide technical training, and has the support of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the European Union. It has CAAC, FAA, EASA, and JMM maintenance licenses for China, Hong Kong, and Macau. It is capable of overhauling Boeing series and Airbus series at all levels. The hangar is responsible for overhauling and maintaining 75% of Air China's narrow-body passenger aircraft as well as a large number of Sichuan Airlines, Shenzhen Airlines, Shanghai Airlines, and Air Macau's passenger aircraft.

On November 30, 2011, Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport began construction of a new hangar. The new hangar has a floor area of 35,020 square meters, including a 33,670-square-meter overhaul hangar, a 990-square-meter power station, a 360-square-meter fire pump station, and consists mainly of a maintenance hall, a painting hall, and an annex building. The maintenance hall has a floor area of 12,741 square meters, with three Boeing 757 overhaul bays and two C-check bays for the same class of aircraft. The project is expected to be completed in July 2013, after the completion of the project, Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport will have the only large-scale maintenance hangar in Southwest China that can simultaneously complete the aircraft overhaul, final inspection and painting work.

Emergency Rescue Guarantee

The size of the airport fire department fleet has reached 12 vehicles, including 2 Jaguar fire trucks, 2 Buffalo fire trucks and 2 T6 fire trucks. The fire pumping station can supply water to 119 fire hydrants; the airport terminal building is also equipped with a comprehensive emergency rescue system, with equipment including smoke and temperature sensors, sound and light alarms, gas extinguishing control panels, and infrared butt-fire detectors.

Air corridors

There are five air corridors in Chengdu Control Area, with a width of 8 kilometers, as follows: Corridor No. 1: Shuangliu VOR~Tazishan (OMGUS)~Jintang VOR Corridor No. 2: Wufengxi VOR~Baquiqishi VOR~Shuangliu Southwest Far Terrace Corridor No. 3: Baquiqishi VOR~Ziyang VOR Corridor No. 4: Fujiafang VOR~Hongxiang Temple ( ONIKI)~Shuangliu Southwest Far Terrace Corridor No. 5: Shuangliu Southwest Far Terrace~Chongzhou VOR
