What is Holmium Laser

Holmium laser is a new type of laser produced by a pulsed solid-state laser device (Cr:Tm:Ho:YAG) made of a laser crystal (Cr:Tm:Ho:YAG) doped with sensitized ions of chromium (Cr), transmitting ions of thulium (Tm), and activating ions of holmium (Ho), using yttrium-aluminum garnet (YAG) as an activating medium. It can be applied to surgery in urology, ophthalmology, dermatology, gynecology and other departments. This laser surgery is non-invasive or minimally invasive, and the patient's treatment pain is very small.

The application of holmium laser has brought the treatment of urinary stones to a new level. The Holmium laser, with a wavelength of 2.1μm, is a pulsed laser and is the newest of the many lasers currently available for surgical procedures.

The energy generated vaporizes the water between the end of the fiber and the stone, forming tiny vacuoles and transferring the energy to the stone, which crushes it into powder form. The water absorbs a large amount of energy, reducing damage to the surrounding tissue. At the same time, the depth of penetration of holmium laser into human tissue is very shallow, only 0.38mm, so it can do minimal damage to the surrounding tissues during lithotripsy, and the safety is very high.
