1946 On July 22nd, the United Nations Economic and Social Council held the International Health Assembly in new york. Representatives from more than 60 countries signed the WHO Charter, which came into effect on April 7th. 1948. To commemorate the adoption day of the organization's charter, the World Health Organization was formally established at the first United Nations World Health Assembly held in Geneva on June 1948, and decided to designate April 7th as World Health Day every year to encourage countries to hold various commemorative activities.

The following year, the Second World Health Assembly decided from 1950 that April 7th would be the global "World Health Day".
