The establishment history of Zhenyuan County:

Zhenyuan belonged to Yongzhou in ancient times, and Beidi County in Qin, which is located on the Loess Plateau in the middle reaches of the Yellow River and north of the Jingshui River, which is the ancient soil of China. Various generations have been set up here in the fiefdom, appointing officials and herdsmen.

In the early years of the Western Han Dynasty, Beidi County was divided into Anding County, with 21 counties under its jurisdiction, of which Linjing County was one.

In the Northern Wei Dynasty, Yuanzhou was set up (with jurisdiction over present-day Zhenyuan, Pingliang, and the Pengyang and Guyuan areas of Ningxia).

Linjing City was built during the Tang Dynasty, and was the rule of Linjing County. At the end of the Tang Dynasty and in the Song Dynasty, the rule of Yuanzhou was placed here, and later became the rule of Zhenyuan Prefecture.

At the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, Zhenyuan Prefecture was changed into a county, and Linjing County was abolished.

In the early years of the Republic of China (1912), Zhenyuan County was divided into five districts.

In 1935, the county seat was set up as Linjing Town.

In 1983, Linjing Township was established.
