Blood-sucking insects will infect healthy cows when they bite sick cows and infected cows. The occurrence of bovine red feather disease has obvious seasonality, and blood-sucking insects are more frequent in summer and autumn, and most infected cattle are infected during this period. First, can red feather sick cattle still be raised?
1. Cattle with red feather disease cannot be raised. Red feather disease mainly occurs in the season when there are many blood-sucking insects such as mosquitoes and Culex pipiens. When blood-sucking insects bite sick cows and poisonous cows and then bite healthy cows, they can spread the virus to healthy cows, among which pregnant cows are the most susceptible to infection.

The main symptoms are bending and curling of joints of limbs, deformation of spine and head. Some serious calves will also have symptoms such as blindness and dysphagia.
2. Cattle red feather disease will not disappear after 1 year. Cattle red feather disease was prevalent in western Kanto of Japan on 1972- 1975 and lasted for 3 years. Although a cow may be infected only once, or only give birth to deformed calves after infection, cows in a region will not be infected within the same year, and new and old cows will be replaced every year, so the disease may be prevalent in a region for 3-5 years.
