Is drinking good for your health?
The argument that moderate drinking is really beneficial to the cardiovascular system originated from 199 1 year. In an American TV program, someone put forward a "French paradox"-French people's lifestyles such as diet and exercise are not very healthy, but the incidence of cardiovascular disease is not high. There is an explanation in the program: French people drink more wine, which may be beneficial to cardiovascular health. In order to explain the "French paradox", scientists from all over the world have done a lot of research, and the total number of people surveyed exceeds one million, which can last for one or two decades. In the field of epidemiological investigation, this can be regarded as one of the richest studies. In these studies, scientists compared the incidence of cardiovascular disease and its mortality with the amount of drinking, and found that both of them in the "moderate drinking" group were lower than those who did not drink at all. Of course, among the people who drank too much, both of them went up again. And not only wine, beer and liquor have similar results. Of course, as an epidemiological survey, it is often influenced by other "confounding factors". For example, people who often drink wine have higher income, so their medical conditions are better. Whether drinking alcohol may be accompanied by other lifestyles, such as vegetables, fruits, sports and so on. In a large-scale survey, we can use statistical tools to exclude the influence of these factors and get the influence of "moderate drinking" on cardiovascular health as much as possible. The general conclusion is that after removing the confounding factors that scientists can think of, the positive effect of "moderate drinking" on cardiovascular health has declined, but it has not completely disappeared. In other words, compared with non-drinkers, people who drink a little wine every day still have a lower incidence of cardiovascular diseases and the resulting mortality. In order to explain this phenomenon, some scholars put forward some hypotheses. A well-known antioxidant is resveratrol in wine. However, animal experiments have also found that people who drink wine will suffocate first to reach the effective dose of resveratrol. Another famous hypothesis is that alcohol helps to increase "good cholesterol" in the blood, and the increase of good cholesterol helps to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Some experimental evidence seems to support this hypothesis, and "moderate drinking is good for cardiovascular health" has been more recognized.
