Counselors refer to school public officials engaged in students' ideological and political education, students' daily management, employment guidance, mental health and the construction of student party groups. Each counselor generally manages one or several classes, and the duties of counselors are carried out with reference to the Professional Ability Standard for Counselors in Colleges and Universities (Provisional).
Abide by the professional standards of patriotism and law-abiding, love and respect their posts, educate people, study for life and be a teacher; Take students as the center, care for students, serve students, grasp the law of students' growth, and constantly improve students' ideological level, political consciousness, moral quality and cultural accomplishment; Guide students to correctly understand the development trend of the world and China, the characteristics and international comparison of China, the responsibility of the times and the historical mission.
Have a correct understanding of lofty ideals, be down-to-earth, and become a qualified builder and reliable successor of Socialism with Chinese characteristics with both ability and political integrity and all-round development. The party and the state pay more and more attention to the ideological and political education of college students, and in 2000 and 2004, they successively issued documents to promote the ideological and political education of college students, making efforts for the way out and guarantee of counselors in many aspects.
